Ingredients
1 cup Rava or semolina or Sooji
2 tbsp oil
1 tbsp mustard seeds
1/2 tbsp Chana dal(Chickpea)
1/2 tbsp Urad dal(split black gram)
1 dried red chilli
Few curry leaves
1/2 onion, finely chopped
2 green chilli, finely chopped
1-inch ginger, finely chopped
3 cups of water
1/2 tbsp sugar
1/2 tbsp salt
1 tbsp ghee or butter
1/2lemon juice
2 tbsp coriander, finely chopped
1/2 Jeera powder( Cumin powder)
Directions
Firstly, dry roast 1 cup Rava on a low flame for 2-3 minutes. keep aside to cool completely.
Now take a pan and heat 2 tbsp of oil and add 1 tbsp of mustard seeds,1/2 tbsp Urad dal, 1 dried red chilli and few curry leaves. Add Jeera(cumin) for more flavour.
Now saute till the mustard seeds splutter. And then add 1/2 onion and then saute well.
Also, saute 2 green chilly and 1-inch ginger. Now pour 3 cups water and get to a vigorous boil.
Further add 1/2 tbsp sugar, 1/2 tbsp salt and 1 tbsp ghee. Mix it well.
By keeping the flame on low start adding roasted rava slowly, stirring continuously in another hand. This helps to prevent any lumps formation.
Mix it continuously till the Rava absorbs water.
And then cover and simmer on low flame for 5 minutes or till upma is cooked well.
After that add 1/2 tbsp lemon juice and 2 tbsp coriander leaves. Mix it well.
It is ready, serve Rava upma. Enjoy it!
